Who this boot is for:

Ideal user: Casual hiker, runner needing ankle support.

Ideal terrain: Nz national parks and Doc tracks.

Do not buy this boot if:

You want a tramping boot, This is a running shoe with ankle support.

You expect to do longer tougher tramps.

Pros:

  • ✅ Multi purpose
  • ✅ ankle supporting runner

Cons:

  • ❌ Lace can dig in on tongue of boot
  • ❌ Durability

Field testing summary:

Terrain tested: Off trail, on trail, guiding, day to day life, rivers.

Weather tested: Mud, Rain, coastal, alpine, indoor, hot weather.

Distance or time worn: Minimum 30 days or 150km

Proofing: GTX, under loads in my experience the shoe got a hole on day 3 of walking.

Weight to support: This shoe (for a runner) is pretty supportive making it slightly on the heavy side. For tramping id say it is extremely light.

Durability for its weight: Tricky for me to say as I only tested tramping. For Tramping very poor durability in NZ terrain. For running they may be okay.

Verdict:

For tramps this shoe is fairly poor under loads with support and durability. If you are an ultralight hiker who doesn’t go off trail often or walking in good weather I would say this boot is worth considering.
